September 2019 Update: Caltrans Martini Creek Bypass Right-of-Way Work
Montara Water and Sanitary District (MWSD) works every day to ensure water, garbage and sewer services for the residents of Montara, Moss Beach, and adjacent areas north of El Granada. Over 6,000 residents rely on our services for their homes and businesses.
Our water – which we each rely on every day for washing, cooking, sanitation, and firefighting – comes from deep local wells and Montara Creek right here on the Coast. The supply is limited and we must protect the watersheds and environment that ensure that supply for all our use.
Reliability, sustainability, and resource protection are at the core of our mission. To serve current and future generations here, we are investigating additional water sources available to the local community. To that end, we have spent several years working with Caltrans’ to examine their Martini Creek Bypass right-of-way in Montara for our community’s water needs, including drilling exploratory wells at the site in 2014.
We continue to do the work and gather the information needed to determine the best plan for our community. The recent survey work at the Caltrans site is necessary should we propose any plan or next step there for our water supply needs. As with any water supply or infrastructure project, MWSD will need to comply with existing permitting and approval processes.
We are committed to public process. Public discussion and input will be a significant part of any water supply or infrastructure planning.
Montara Water and Sanitary District is your local agency focused on the issues right here in our community. We are managed and led by people who live here. In 2003, the community asked the District to acquire and protect the privately-owned local water system. Since then, we have successfully managed and improved that system so water reliably flows to your taps every day.
