Public Invited: Alta Vista Tank #2 Ribbon Cutting in Montara on April 1, 5:30 PM

Major Investment in Quality Water Service for our Community

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held April 1 to mark completion of construction of the half-million-gallon Alta Vista Tank 2, according to the Montara Water and Sanitary District.

The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the tank site, but due to lack of parking MWSD officials will shuttle guests from the District offices at 8888 Cabrillo Highway, Montara starting at 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend. “It is a great opportunity to see and learn about our community’s biggest investment in water facilities ever,” noted Clemens Heldmaier, District General Manager. There will be few brief presentations, including on the technology and process of building the tank.”

Further information may be obtained by calling 650-728-3545.

“The Alta Vista Tank improves storage for firefighting, meets customer demand during emergencies, enhances water quality and positions the district to meet future growth demands for watersupply,” Heldmaier said. “When the existing tank No. 1 on the site needs to be serviced, tank No. 2 provides the needed storage.

The additional water storage also allows the District to operate the individual wells more efficiently by providing the opportunity to prioritize which well to use according to supply availability and drought status, as well as to lower pumping costs by pumping at off-peak hours when electricity costs less. Altogether, the reservoir represents a great new benefit to the community.

Though originally envisioned as a 1 million-gallon tank, the project was able to be reduced in size and cost as a result of the success of the community’s water conservation program.

Low-cost financing for the facility was achieved through a loan from the State Revolving Fund at only 2.2 percent.

The District also realized significant cost savings by rejecting the first round of bids received and making modifications before undertaking a second round of bidding. The changes resulted in about $1 million in savings. Western Water Constructors, Inc., of Santa Rosa was awarded the $2.93 million contract and started construction in November, 2015.
